• 24 hours of continuous paddling
• Record set in 1986, California
• 104 miles and above for new world record
In mid August Jon will attempt to break a Guinness World Record last set in 1986 for the most amount of miles paddled on the sea in a kayak in a 24 hour period.
The proposed route takes him under the forth road bridge on the south side of the Forth, round Bass rock and North past the Isle of May and Bell rock before heading in towards the coast North of St.Andrews and on towards Montrose and Aberdeen.
The attempt will be supported by friends in a 40ft yacht, who will ensure that regular fuelling (gels / drinks and energy bars) can take place to ensure that Jon can keep going for the full 24 hours.
To break the current record Jon will need to paddle more than a 104nm (nautical) / 120 (statute) in the 24 hour period.
The kayak being used for the attempt is a Valley rapier 20ft racing sea kayak.
Keep checking these pages to find out how Jon gets on and whether a new record has been set.
